The Angels may Quote from it.

Preserve your memories, Seal them up well. What you forget, You can never retell. But a journal that's kept fresh on the shelf, Will help someone through rough times, Maybe even yourself.

Isn't that a great poem? I have a few good quotes on journaling and I wanted to share them, so why not blog about journaling? I have been keeping journals on and off since I was eight years old. I got my first journal(besides school journals) at my baptism.

At first I only wrote in it when I had something to tell that I thought was particularly interesting, or that I wanted to make sure to remember. But when I was about twelve, I got this quote given to me in a young women's class: "Every person should keep a journal and every person can keep a journal. It should be an enlightening one, and bring great blessings and happiness to the families."~Spencer W. Kimball. Then my beehives advisor showed us the old journals she had that had been her mothers. Her mother had written in her journal EVERY day. That really made me want to get into that habit.

Ever since then I have been striving to get into the habit of writing in my journal every day. It's harder than I thought it would be. I definitely don't write every day, but I usually write at least three times a week. I really liked the talk that President Eyring gave in this last general conference. He put it in a good perspective. There really are so many good reasons for keeping a journal. I have come to see them as I have tried so much to be consistent in my record keeping. The biggest reason for me (I know this sounds a bit selfish) is how much it helps me grow. When I write things from my life, and then read over them, and ponder them, it puts things in perspective. It helps me to organize my thoughts.

"Get a notebook,...a journal that will last through all time, and maybe the angels may quote from it for eternity. Begin today and write in it your goings and comings, your deepest thoughts, your achievements and your failures, your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your testimonies."~Spencer W. Kimball.

I found a school journal that I had written when I was about seven. It was so fun to read it! I had forgotten so many of the things that were written in it. Cheyenne and Dakota had fun reading about how I was when I wasn't "boring". And they started to be more detailed in writing their journals when they saw how much I loved mine.

"To you women of today, who are old or young, may I suggest to you that you write, that you keep journals, that you express your thoughts on paper. Writing is a great discipline. It is a tremendous education effort. It will assist you in various ways, and you will bless the lives of many--now and in the years to come, as you put on paper some of your experiences and some of your musings." ~President Gordon B. Hinckley

That is a quote I found on someone elses blog. Don't you love President Hinckley? Well, I now have three filled journals sitting in the bottom of my hope chest. Yay me! And I am working on another one. There is a really good talk by Spencer W. Kimball from the New Era about journal keeping. Just got to the church website and type "The angels may quote from it" in the search bar and you'll find it. Well I think I've babbled enough for one day.

I'm glad that you realize the worth of journaling. You've been an example to me as you keep your journal better than I keep mine. Thanks for being an example to the kids and myself. I loved reading that old school journal after we discovered it a few months ago. I was surprised how much you wrote each day for a seven year old. You really filled up the pages even back then.Love Mom

I try and write sometimes... I was getting around to it every day for a while, but I haven't for a LONG time... I found a journal from when I was little awhile back too (I think I was around 8-9, because I wrote - or rather, drew - about 9/11 right after it happened...and another from when I was about 10.
It was funny reading some of the stuff I wrote.
A few years ago, I tried several times to write a diary of what I daydreamed about... now they're so embarassing I've ripped most of them up :-D

Good job on keeping a journal Tiff. I havne't been so good at that. I do know they are important. And I also know that it is important to keep them uplifting and enlightening. When I was a teen, I kept one for a little while. But I think I gripped in it too often about silly teenager stuff.

I also thought about having a Gratitude Journal. My co-worker has one that she writes in every day about what she was thankful for in that day.

Tiffany, I'm proud of you for keeping a journal. I used to LOVE writing in my journal Can you belive I have 9 full journals?! I just love going back and reading them.
I'm not so good anymore. I like blogging because I feel like I'm at least doing something, even though I can't write really personal stuff.

Thank you for writing about journals. I took have kept a journal for over 50 years. It is so important to keep one. My husband and I are serving a humanitarian mission and I am on our 4th journal. It is so rewarding and hopefully when we look back we can see growth and appreciation for the sacrifice and service others. Each missionary I come in contact with I ask if they are writing in their journal. Henry B. Eyring said that he would write every night no matter how tired he was to write in his journal how he could see the hand of the Lord in his life. I see it every day here.
