I have decided to start a new blogging tradition. Once a month, I am going to share one of my favorite hymns, primary songs, or other uplifting "churchy" song. I got the idea when our bishop asked anyone who would like to come and share a favorite song or scripture in sacrament meeting. I thought it was a really thoughtful idea, and felt guilty when I didn't share my favorite. I don't usually ignore a prompting to bare my testimony , but I confess that I did then. So afterward, I decided, 'why can't I still share it?' So here it is, my favorite hymn:
Be Still my Soul
1. Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
With patience patience bear thy cross of grief or pain;
leave to your God to order and provide;
in every change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best,
thy heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2. Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake to guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
all now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul:
the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3. Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on when we shall be forever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, sorrow for forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
hymn # 124
Psalm 37:3-9
Doctrine and Covenants 101:14-16,35-38
This is the song that brings me most peace and confidence when I need it. It reminds me that God is always in charge, He is aware of us, and we have no reason to fear if we are on His side. I especially like the second verse, although it is all beautiful. I like how it says in the first verse "Thy best, thy heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end." It's nice to hear the Lord described as a "best and heavenly friend", because that is how I see Him. He is there when it seems like no one else is. Even when you don't remember Him, he is still aware of you, and He feels your pain.
I have many favorite hymns of course. But for a while now this has been my very favorite. It brings so much comfort and security. Well, I hope that you all can read the words and come to appreciate them as much as I do. The melody is beautiful too, and I love to play and sing it to myself.

I hadn't heard that song before, it's really good. I wonder if it's in my church's hymnal? :-)
I never appreciated that song much until you pointed it out to me. It is so comforting and lovely.
Love, Mom
That is beautiful Tiff. You can play that? Maybe I will learn to play that on my flute and we can do a duet one day. I'm not sure if I even know the melody of this. But the words are beautiful.
That would be fun Aunt Katrina! It is really very beautiful, I know you will love it even more when you here how it sounds.
Thanks for signing my guestbook on my blog! I love that your blog reflects a morally clean and beautiful young daughter of God! You are beautiful both inside and out!
Wow - what a great tradition! I'm impressed at what a great girl you are. You have a wonderful family, though, so I know where you learned all these great things!
