Still Life

A few days ago I decided I wanted to paint. I'm not as good at painting as I am at drawing, but I like it. It's relaxing to me. Here is the still life I set up.

After stretching my paper and then applying some gesso(primer) and letting it dry, I added a yellow wash. That way I have a warm painting right from the start. It turned out pretty good. I didn't mean to make is speckled like that, but I like it. Just FYI, it is easier to paint/draw on a background with some color.

Here is my entire set up. Brushes, accrylic paints, water, spray bottle, stretched paper . . .

A quick outline in light green.

Filling in the shapes. I layer a lot of color. It still looks kind of transparent at this point though.

The pine cone. I wasn't sure how to go about painting a pine cone, but I am actually quite proud of the little thing. It's not finished in this picture yet.

Finished painting. I darkened the darkest spots, and added bright highlights. And then I added stripes to make it look finished.

So there you go. That is my painting process.
