Kool-Aid Hair

Hello! My sister and I had a little fun today and dyed our hair. With Kool-Aid! I dyed some of the ends of hers, and just one strand of my own. I took these pictures with my cell phone not my camera, but they're pretty good I think. These are the flavors (colors) we chose. I just mixed three packets with a tiny bit of water and some hair conditioner.

 The blue looked fantastic, but we were a little concerned with the way the "purple" looked. After the hair was dyed it ended up looking pretty much the same as the blue. :/

We let it sit for 3 or 4 hours and then carefully rinsed out the mixture. After letting it dry a bit I also went over it with a straightener.

It actually turned out pretty well. Chey definitely has some blue hair, but it isn't too crazy. And mine has a nice subtle splash of color. And it smells delicious! It's too late to take pictures of the results tonight, but I will do that tomorrow. Thanks for sharing our adventure. :)

Some Things That I Like

     Hey everyone! I just want to post a few random things. First of all as you probably saw on my Facebook (if you are my friend) I gave myself winged cat eye liner today. I have always liked winged eyeliner, but for some reason I haven't ever done it on myself. Well yesterday when I was at Jordon's house and was wearing heavier eyeliner than usual he told me that sometime for fun I should wear "egyptian" eyeliner. So today I tried it. I will of course have to do it sometime when I am actually going to see Jordon, so he can see it properly. But anyways I wore it with gold eyeshadow and some red lip gloss and I really liked it. :)

     Also here is my nerdy little robot necklace that I have been wearing the last few days. Yes I admit that I am a little bit of a nerd. I love my little robot.

The pictures are my favorites for this month in my own personal "showroom". They choose items for you based on the quiz, but you can add more to it if you don't fall in love with what's there. Tsunami Relief

     Hello everyone! I recently stumbled upon these bracelets. They are pretty simple, but they're charming and apparently pretty popular. Even famous people are buying them. The cool thing is that they are handmade in Costa Rica by a poor guy discovered by vacationers who brought a bunch back to America. They were really popular, so they decided to turn it into a business. Now they are sold all over. Part of the proceeds go to the Surfrider Foundation. There is a news story about them here. Go watch it!
     They recently made one titled Tsunami Relief, and they're goal is to sell 1000 of them, and half of the money goes to support the victims of the Japan disaster. It's the one in the first picture. The bracelets only cost $5.00, so it's not a lot. But it's a worthy goal.
     There are also a lot of other colors. I find myself a little intriqued by them. It would be kind of cool to have a whole bunch and wear them all at the same time. People must be buying a ton of them, because they aren't at all expensive and yet they seem to be making decent profit off of them.

Conffesions of a Messy Girl

     Hello everyone! I would like to start by letting you all know that I am one of the messiest girls that I know. I have met a few who are just as or messier than me, but not many. I always tell myself that it will be different when I move out and have my own place to take care of. I do think that that is a little true, but I need to confess to myself that it probably isn't as true as I would like it to be. So a goal I am setting now for myself is to learn how to be clean. After all, it's a Celestial trait, and I need to learn it eventually. And I want to be clean, I really do. I remember sitting in Aunt Kris' room at Grandpa's house and loving it, because it was always so fresh and feminine, with roses hanging in bundles from the ceiling. And of course perfectly organized and clean. I always thought you were amazing Kris! And still do.

     So, I came across this 20 day program to spiff up your house. I don't have my own place, but I like this. And I thought that all of you would too. So here is the link. They are videos, the first is at the bottom of the page. They range from 2-5 minutes long. The goal is to take 20 minutes every day for 20 days and do something to make your home better. Some are small things, and some will probably take longer than 20 minutes for some people (like me). This guy is obviously already really clean, so of course it only takes him 20 minutes. Or maybe he cleaned before he made the video?

     Just to give you an idea of what kind of things they are. Day one is to clean one room in your house, including completely cleaning floors and wiping down surfaces. The second days goal was just to buy some fresh flowers for your home.

     So today I am just going to start cleaning my room. It will definitely take longer than 20 minutes, and I probably won't get to vacuuming until tomorrow. :D

     And I also need to get my homework done really bad.

Naturally Clean

My mom will probably think I'm weird when she reads this. Actually a lot of people probably will but that's ok.
I have a sudden interest in using natural/homemade cleansers for my face. I've been researching it, and so far it seems to me like these are the best ingredients:

• Honey. I guess honey has some special ability to help your skin retain moisture. It also has antioxidants to help keep your skin healthy. Sometimes I like to put a little on my lips. It feels a little weird at first, but it does moisten the skin, and it tastes sweet.
  
• Banana. I have yet to learn why, but crushed banana seems to be one of the popular natural cleansers. I don't know if I would ever try that one though. Maybe.
  
• Milk. Milk is obviously good for you. It's full of vitamins. It cleanses and refreshes your skin by gently stripping away dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. Mix it with some other ingredients, or use whole milk on it's own.
  
• Yogurt. The same as milk basically. It's just a little more creamy, and I would think leaves your skin a bit more moisturized. Use plain yogurt of course, not the flavored kind.
  
• Olive Oil. I have long known told that olive oil is the best oil for your body. My mom tries to use it when she cooks more than other oils. Well It's supposed to be good for your skin too. It's supposed to moisturize skin without clogging pores and leaving an oily feeling. Cool.
  
• Sugar. White or brown. Sugar, as far as I can tell, is good because it is a natural way to add a little scrub to cleansers. You know, to kind of rub off the old layer and let the new show through. You have to be careful with scrubs though, because if you go too far scrubbing your skin will do more harm than good. If you injure your skin then it will work harder to make oils to heal it. And more oil on your face isn't good.
• Oatmeal. It's good for your body inside and out. That's why you're supposed to eat it for breakfast every day, and take an oatmeal bath if you get chicken pox. It soothes your skin. Ground up oatmeal is a great ingredient for homemade cleansers. Maybe mixed with yogurt?
  
• Egg. One time in Activity Days when I was a little girl they had us put egg on our face as a natural facial. I refused and went home, haha. But I think I'd be brave enough to try it now. Fluffy egg white is good, but as far as I can tell the whole thing is good for the skin.

So there they are. I know that there are some other ones, like cucumber, grapes, apple, tomatoes and almond. But these seem to be the most basic ones. Mix some together and create a recipe, or use them on their own. Personally I have tried honey mixed with a little bit of olive oil. It was actually pretty cool. I wet my face with warm water first, and then rinsed it with cold. It left my skin clean and soft, and didn't dry it out. The honey kind of clings to your skin (until you rinse it I mean), and the oil just kind of sits on top (once again, until you rinse it). They make a pretty good couple.

I have also tried milk mixed with a tiny bit of honey. I made sure the honey was dissolved before I soaked a cotton ball in the mix and applied it to my face. It smelled really good. Surprisingly this one left my skin feeling basically just like it does after I use my store bought cleanser. It was a little more drying than the honey and oil, but not quite as much as the store stuff.

So yeah. If you want to go natural look up a recipe, or just make your own like I did. I don't think you can really go wrong. There are no weird chemicals or anything. I would think if you have sensitive skin it would be good to try these. :) It's a little weird. But God gave us these things to use for food, and I don't see why not use them for your skin on the outside as well. After all, they work, and most of them are basic things that you already have in your kitchen. These are the kinds of things women used before modern medicines and cleansers.

Hey everyone, did you know there is a Museum Of Bad Art? Well there is. I think it's quite funny. Most works are just artists trying new ideas and failing. They get most of their art from attics, the trash, thrift stores, or donated from the artists themselves. Anyways here are a few of the piece along with funny descriptions provided by the museum.



"Madonna with Smile" -
Much controversy surrounds the history of this piece. Whether the work of a single artist or two artists separated by time and place, the piece succeeds in transforming a simple icon into a mysterious yet radiant image through a few quick dashes of the pen.



"Queen of the Chocolate Chip" -
The piece comments on the incongruity of royalism at the close of the second millennium. The formality of the pose contrasts with the laissez-faire attitude of Her Majesty, caught mid-chew, as she sports a jaunty beret in preference to her emerald encrusted crown. We are, in fact, amused.



"Charlie and Sheba" -
No longer able to tolerate the incessant barking, Charlie the Chipmunk used a band-aid to tape Sheba the Sheepdog's mouth shut before posing with her on the picnic table.



"Inspiration" -
The organ master stares, transfixed by twin mysterious visions; the Neanderthal saint in the setting sun and the Gothic monk proceeding out from the cathedral's sanctum -- each framed by a halo of organ pipes, reminiscent of #2 pencils.

Happiness

I have been playing beautiful arrangments of ' Jesus, once of Humble Birth', and 'Jesus the very Thought of Thee', from a book that Jordon's mom Brenda gave me for Christmas.

Some of Kota's practice "thumbnail sketches". They do one 4inch square drawing a day. Kota is always looking at something and saying "I should draw that!"



Cheyenne has been doing well, but I think Kota is most enthusiastic. Here is his art folder, with a baggie full of every different kind of pen and pencil he could find, a sharpener, and plenty of paperclips and erasers.



Here is one of my own drawings of some pears. It's not done yet. I still have to add speckles to the pears, and polish the whole thing up a bit. And I'm trying to decide if I should add color, or leave it black and white. Any opinions?



Speaking of pears, here are the baked pears that I made for breakfast today. I was quite proud of them. I peeled them, and cut them in half and pitted them. Then I covered the tops with a layer of butter, being sure to put a little blob in the pit, and covered them in brown sugar and cinnamon. Then I baked them for about 13 minutes at 350 degrees.



I loved them, and ate three (or one and a half).

Happy Valentines Day!

It is a beautiful day today! It almost feels like spring! I really can't wait until it's warm enough for me to completely ditch my puffy winter coat.
Yesterday the youth in my ward went to the temple to do baptisms. It's was great of course. It's always a wonderful experience. I especially like to watch some of the younger kids who have never done it, or who haven't done it much. Hehe, I remember my first time. I felt nervous, and paid attention to every single detail, hoping I wouldn't mess anything up. Now I just relax, think of the work that is being done, have a good time with the other teens, and enjoy it. The Manti temple is SO beautiful! Not that all of them aren't. But that is my favorite one.
Then when we got home at about eight, I put on some jeans and headed out the door again. I went to Jordon's house to celebrate the holiday. Jordon's best friend and his girlfriend (who are both my friends too of course) came over too. The boys made us hamburgers and curly fries. After we ate we watched Night at the Museum 2.
And . . . . Jordon gave me these beautiful roses! They are orange because that's my favorite color. Every time I look at them it makes me happy. :) He also gave me a lovely little silver and gold heart necklace. It's prettier and shinier than in the picture. I love it!

Mural Mosaic Project

Today in art we didn't do any work. Instead we talked about the end of the year project that we are going to start soon. The project that if we fail we also fail the class. Mrs. S says that she is thinking of not giving us ANYMORE HOMEWORK for the rest of the year so that we can focus on this. That shows how big this project is. It is going to be challenging, but I am actually really excited about it.

We are going to paint a big mural dinosaur for our school. Our school mascot is a dino (it's a big T Rex kind of think), so we are going to paint a big dino, in blue (our school color) to hang in the gym. However it is not only going to be a mural, but also a mosaic. For those of you who do not know what a mosaic is: it is a picture put together with little tiles.

Here is an example of what we are doing. It's really cool. Ours will be like this, but a dinosaur instead of a horse, and since we have only 11 art students plus one teacher rather than like 50 proffesional artist, ours will be on a much smaller and less detailed scale. In fact this example makes me feel quite inferior. But it will still be a fun project. And the fact that our art will be hanging in the school for as long as it lasts is a pretty cool thought. It will be there when my younger siblings go there!

Take time to look at some of the little paintings and you will get an idea of how awesome it is! I especially like the horses nose, hooves, ears, and eye (if nothing else, look at the eye!) Not all of them, but many of the little pictures also have little examples that show you what that tile looked like when it was just a regualr horse, and unaltered by the artist. They did an amazing job turning a little section of nothing into something lovely that helps make up the entire work.

The fact that we are painting scares me a bit. Painting is not my strong point, and basically I will be learning it as I go along. At least you can easily cover mistakes with paint. Also since we are such a small class we will have to each do at least two or three tiles. Our teacher said that she will do some too to help us out. The school is paying for all of the supplies, so that is not a worry. Everything else in that class we usually pay for ourselves. If it was an assignment from our teacher we would have to pay for it, but we were asked to do it for the school.

So yeah, obviously I am really pleased with this assignment. Especially if it means no other assignments for the rest of the year! But I will stop babbling about it now. I hope you all at least somewhat enjoy it as much as I do. :)

I decided to show everyone some random things from Etsy that I like. Etsy is great because everything is handmade. It makes every little thing like a miniature bit of art. It's great to see how people can so creatively express their personalities. It would be nice if I had money to buy these things, but even though I don't I can still enjoy looking at them and being inspired!
So, these are some of the things that appealed to me. But there is tons of stuff there for all kinds of people.
